Seattle!! at the NAEA tradeshow for Art Teachers

March 16, 2011

Today is travel day to the NAEA (National Art Educators Association ) Trade show in Seattle. I do have to give a shout out to my family for graciously getting up at the crack of dawn to bring me to the airport…I am soooo not a morning person… :)

Of course the day got better when I arrived at DFW and saw my friend Tiffany Windsor of Cool2Craft there! OMG – this was totally unplanned….but what a great way to pass – okay..just 30 minutes…but still what a great way to pass the time – chit chatting with a girlfriend right? Tiffany is on her way to give a big presentation to one of her clients and so there we are chatting away when a couple of adorable little boys, ages 4 and 5 came up to me and said….”hey, it’s time to get on the plane!!!”. I think they were just excited that they were going on the airplane…but to me…a huge thank you to this little guy because we would have just kept on chatting and missed both of our flights!!!

I’ve been to Seattle a time or two…but I haven’t been to SEATTLE – DOWNTOWN Seattle…Oh my goodness the shopping…and the restaurants….and the fly into this city is – G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!!!

Arrived at the airport by train….which …is a little scary for me simply because the last time I was on a train was when I was taking the train from London to Stoke-on-Trent and I missed getting off….because apparently I didnt get to the door in time. I did laugh a little to myself getting on this train and the poor guy sitting next to me must have thought I was a total nut for asking over and over again “are you sure Im on the right train?”…oh well…he doesn’t know me…thank goodness – he’ll get over it…
And no worries – I was definately on the right train…and 30 minutes and $2.50 later I got off the train at my intended destination…partly because I was on the ball this time…at the door – luggage in hand and backpack on back….and…because it was the last stop…didnt go any further.

Tomorrow is a set up day…don’t know what the show will bring – it’s my first time here. But I love teaching and I love Cloud Clay and I love trade shows…so…given that it’s all things I love…I should LOVE this trip!

I have a couple of new characters that I brought to life for this show. First – a sneaky peek at my friend Walter – who’s making his first appearance at the show…he’s a water bottle piglet and loves Sweetarts candies….I happened to find them inside his water bottle – he stole them when I wasnt looking.

.

He’s a sneaky little thing he is!!  Another character who is shy – and the reason why I haven’t gotten his picture yet is “Eggward”  He’s a monster from….???? (needs a name) – so that will have to be another sort of contest…but…He’s also making his debut here…if I can get him out of the corner.  He got so excited about the plane ride and lost his feet…so he’s in the corner standing upright waiting for his glue to dry……

So it will be a fun four days talking with the teachers and getting their reaction to the clay and all that Amaco is doing.  I do know that there is a potter here that will be throwing clay – I for one can’t wait to see that demonstration….

So hopefully I’ll get a chance to take lots and lots of pictures and take you along a virtual trip with me.  I’d love to have you join me.
