Ah yes! My favorite sport – To Upcycle and Recycle!
The huntress in me seeks not that of animal this time, no I’m on the hunt for the buried treasure. The kind you will travel to the distant ends of the earth in search of and wonder how you will ever get it back home. No, this is not a hunt not gold, but of rust, all things tattered, cast aside, eclectic, well loved, dirty. old. things. What was once someones throw-aways, has happily made it into my arms where it will be upcycled, given new life and a chance to smile all the while as my hubby Dana rolls his eyes in disbelief.
You can not be a member of my family and not be a junque collector or an upcycle-ist at heart. So when given the opportunity to visit family in So Cal you know we are going to go to as many swap meets, flea markets, and estate and garage sales as we can pack into three days! While my cousin searches for vintage finds for her Vintage Market shows, I’m on a quest to find – who knows what actually, anything that grabs my attention and gives me an instant idea.
My cousin Kelly, challenged me to an under $5 flea market flip of sorts. I had to find junque to upcycle into something divine and oozing with awesome sauce. The catch? The main materials had to cost less than $5. Oh yeah, twist my arm I’m all up for that challenge. Here’s what I found: (watch the video on youtube – here)
And here’s what all I brought home that just arrived today in the studio: Tony Lama cowboy boots for $1, a couple of bike wheels, a bunch of drawer pulls, vintage style keys, a mini floral frog, baseballs, baseball gloves, old garden knobs, vintage dominos in both vintage black and the white plastic ones and an old clock. So here is your challenge:
